Dr. Beth O.

Wouldn’t you want your (conceptual?) art decorating scientific equipment 5000 meters under the ocean and be part of a contest sponsored by the Center for Dark Energy Biosphere Investigations?

Just found out about this really cool Adopt-a-Microbe Project started by marine microbial biogeochemist Beth Orcutt. She’s part of a group of researchers trying to understand what’s going on in the deep biosphere. Not just  in the deep ocean, but thousands of meters underneath the seafloor. That’s deep.

As they said, “We know that tiny little life forms exist down there, but we don’t know much about who they are and what they are doing (yet!)”.

The next round of Adopt-a-Microbe activities doesn’t start till September, but you enter your artwork for the contest before September 10, 2011. Details below and here.

Thanks to our FB friend @WendyGrus for alerting us to this awesome project.
