The MIT Mathematics Department offers a new afterschool outreach program for high school students from Greater Boston, called PRIMES: Program for Research In Mathematics, Engineering, and Science.

PRIMES connects high school students with MIT faculty and graduate students to work on advanced research projects in mathematics or computational biology.

Program participants come weekly to MIT campus to meet with their mentors, audit lectures, and visit MIT labs. The Program is free, and there is no application fee.

Girls, minorities, and students from underprivileged groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

The application deadline for the 2011 program cycle is December 15, 2010.
